To gain access to the air pocket you will have to drill a hole in the tub floor. Use a foam insulation. I used Great Stuff for gaps greater than 1 inch. Practice applying the foam first on a piece of scrap wood to get a feel for it. Insert the application tube into the air pocket and spray the foam until it fills the entire air pocket. Some foam will expand out of the hole.
Wipe this excess foam away every 2 to 3 minutes until it stops expanding. Use an epoxy sealant to seal the hole and crack. I used WaterWeld putty. Apply the sealant and let it cure and harden. Question 3 years ago. Pro Tip: In the case of a leak, inspect all your pipes, jets, and plumbing lines. At times, tightening and resealing the connections could solve the problem. Most of your hot tub or spa pipes and manifolds are covered in heavy foam.
Cut the foam with a sheetrock saw and peel them off to get to the leaking pipe. If your pipe is still usable, clean it and sand down the cracked part so that epoxy putty can stick well. Know that a cracked hot tub pipe cannot last for long.
Get rid of it and replace it with a new piece. You only need to replace the cracked part. A hot tub pump pushes water into the heater tube and its pressure leaks past the old seals. If you see any sign of water dripping around the pump, you may want to reseal the joints.
It heats the water and is a key player in the leak factor. There is a high chance that the rubber gaskets have failed on both ends of the tube. The pipes and unions are where most of the leaks and cracks occur. Tighten the unions with hands when they come loose over time if your hot tub regularly vibrates.
Get it straight that if you use heavy tools for tightening or loosening the PVC pipe connections and unions, you may get into bigger trouble. Either you have gate valves or diverter valves, replace them in case they are leaking. Air control valves leak less. Over time, a small crack can increase in size and cause irreparable damage.
Fixing a crack in the fiberglass can stop the crack from spreading and extend the life of your hot tub. Protect your hands with vinyl gloves, and your eyes with goggles.
Wear a respirator to avoid breathing in fiberglass dust and any fumes emitted by the repair product. Drill a small hole through the fiberglass at the tip of the crack where it starts, and drill another hole at the tip of the crack where it ends to keep the crack from spreading.
Insert a grinding bit into a cordless rotary drill. Wipe the surface of the hot tub along the crack with a soft cloth or paper towel. Place a small amount of acetone on a soft cloth. Wipe the prepared crack with the acetone to remove any dust and debris from the grinding and sanding.
